Devezin 100% Synthetic Cruelty Free Vegan Brush Set

Now there are so many incredibly useful sorts of makeup brushes out there, but not every last one is necessary to your collection. This foolproof makeup brush guide covers just the need-to-know basics. Keep scrolling to learn which brushes are worth having in your collection and how to use them!

Foundation Brush

As the name suggests, this brush is designed for applying liquid foundation. Foundation brushes have tightly packed bristles of varying lengths to help achieve a smooth, non-streaky finish. You can apply foundation to your face and then use the brush to spread and blend or alternatively apply your foundation directly to the brush and then apply to the face, starting at the nose and working your way out. I find the second method uses less product and allows for a more precise application.  If you’re not sure whether a foundation brush purchase is worth it, consider the following points:
1. It’s more hygienic.
2. It applies your foundation more evenly and precisely.
3. You don’t waste any foundation on your fingers.

Powder Brush

The powder brush is one of the largest makeup brushes and has a wide variety of purposes. It is soft, full and rounded, allowing it to easily pick up powdered products. You can use it to distribute powder evenly to large areas, such as the face, neck and dĂ©colletage. Simple pat the brush into your powder product, dust off any excess and apply using sweeping and circular motions. If you’re a big fan of bronzer, this brush is a must.

Concealer Brush

This brush may be little, but when used correctly the impact it makes can be huge. We’re always told to pat in concealer not rub, but this can be difficult when applying with your fingers. Use this brush to gently pat on your concealer for smooth and flawless coverage. Whether it’s dark circles under your eyes, spots or discoloration, this nifty little brush will give you more control over those annoying imperfections.

Blush Brush

That’s right you guessed it, a blush brush is used for applying your blush. The blush brush is made with fine, gentle fibers with a soft rounded head. It’s ideal for applying powdered color to the apples of your cheeks and blending it up along your cheekbone. Don’t forget to smile& dab so you can locate them better!

Contour Brush

For the KIM K-West look this is the brush that can help you achieve it. The slanted bristles are intended to mimic the angle of your cheekbones, so it’s perfect for blending, highlighting and shading using a bronzer or illuminating powder.

Eye Shadow brush

There are many different types of eye shadow brushes, but the two most commonly used: The eye base brush is used to apply color to your entire eyelid. It’s wide, flat and short, with a beveled edge to allow smooth application without pulling on the eyelid. Once a base color has been applied, the angled eye shadow brush or contour eye shadow brush is then used for layering color and creating hard lines along the eyelid crease.

Lip Brush

A lip brush is a great way to achieve a perfect line when you don’t have a lip liner handy (or can’t find the right color). The sculpted tip of the lip brush allows for precise application and lining of the lip, while the short and firm bristles gives flawless overall coverage. It’s also a more hygienic way to apply lipstick if you tend to share.

Keep Them Clean!

Treat your brushes the way you would your skin!

Clean after each use, dry properly and store in a safe place.

How to Store Your Brush Selection

Don't just throw them loosely into a makeup kit. Not only can the top get crushed and distorted, but also a serious amount of germs live deep in the depths of your bag and can rub off onto anything in close proximity. Instead, stay organized and most importantly safe.

How-to: Wash and Dry Your Brushes

I suggest using a gentle shampoo like the baby variety to wash the brushes. Make sure the word "gentle" is clearly printed on the label to avoid harsh chemicals that can loosen the glue holding bristles in place. Softly scrub the lathered up brushes in the palm of your hand and then rinse thoroughly until the water stream runs clear (a sign that dirt and makeup have made their exit). Then lay them flat on a paper towel to dry overnight.

New @DevezinBeauty: Fall beauty trends to get you in the mood for sweater weather

Not just a trend, there’s a good reason for craving dewy skin—it not only looks feminine and natural, but plump hydrated skin is a sign of good health, wealth and most importantly youth—something we all want. The good news: You don’t have to be a 14-year old-model, have me on speed dial, or chug several liters of water a day to get a perfectly dewy visage.

Of course, mastering these tricks requires a solid foundation, which means you shouldn’t skimp on exfoliating, moisturizing, and drinking (a reasonable) amount of water. Once you’ve done that, read on for tips & tricks that really work to achieve enviable dewy skin.

Don't
Don’t dab liquid highlighter on after your foundation—mix a drop into it, and apply with a damp Beauty Blender, or another high-quality sponge.

Do
Add a drop of cold-pressed avocado oil to cream or gel blush—it’s thick enough to not make the color run, but will add a dewier finish.

If you’re not a fan of liquid highlighters, grab a small pot of peach, gold, beige, or white eye-shadow. From there, press with your finger on to your cheekbones for a subtle dewy finish. If you’re really in a DIY mood, crack the shadow and mix with a little coconut oil for an instant highlighter.

Eye-shadow Tip:
Pat foundation, concealer or primer (either will work) over eyelids. Choose a subtle nude hue that has a hint of shimmer and quickly sweep it across the lid. If you want, use brown eyeliner to faintly line the upper lid along the lash line. Curl lashes and finish eyes with a swipe of mascara; add a sheer lip color and you're done.

Learn to master a flawless, barely there finish. The latest glow-enhancing formulas put the spotlight on your complexion. To get your most enviably skin ever, follow the above tips.

How to Apply Eyeliner in 60 seconds

Secrets of Eyeliner
Here are some basic tips to help you apply your pencil eyeliner with precision!

Step one:
extend your eyebrow to an upward position while applying, holding your eyebrow in place keeps your eyelid skin taught, allowing the pencil to distribute more smoothly. (for a straight line)!

Step two:
sometimes you skip that strip of skin directly above your lash line. Usually it's not bad but if you apply in a hurry, that strip of skin looks "off"!  Just take a quick second to draw downwards to ensure that no skin peeks through.

Step three:
if you're going for drama then leave your pencil line as is, but more often than not a smudged pencil line looks more flattering- it blends the eyeliner into your shadow and gives you more of a sophisticated look.

Remember: Beauty is YOU!

Confessions of a Professional Makeup Artist

Whether I’m creating a natural, no makeup-makeup look or evening glam, how the face is prepped is key to a successful look. And while cutting corners can save time, there are a few must do's I always follow when applying makeup, and ones that happen before I even touch a brush to anyone’s face! Read on to check out the rules of beauty I rely on.

To ensure long-lasting makeup, always set your foundation. Whether it’s for a photo shoot or a celebrity client, I swear by the ULTA Makeup Setting Spray.
I recommend the Mattifier Shine Eliminator option for those with oily skin, and Chill for those with dry or combo skin. And for those extra long nights, I suggest All Nighter Long-Lasting Makeup Setting Spray to prevent makeup meltdowns.
Tip: Mist setting spray onto your makeup sponge and gently tap onto the T-zone for a more concentrated application.

Always keep a nude, red and a brightly-colored lip stain in your desk, purse, or vanity at any time. In a pinch, you can add to cheeks, blot on lips (for a barely there stain), or apply fully for a great nighttime option. Adaptability keeps you on fleek!

Concealer is a multi-functional tool when used to its full advantage. I love a thick concealer that can be ‘blended out’ with a bit of moisturizer—so not only do you have the perfect zit remover, but also a product that can be added to, an eye cream to conceal dark circles quickly without caking.
Tip: Add a swipe of concealer to areas where you’ll apply highlighter (brow bone, down the bridge of your nose, chin and forehead) so your glisten has extra staying power.

I cannot stress this enough—drink plenty of water! Its me gently reminding you. Hydrating your body means younger, smoother, glowing skin. To make sure you stay hydrated, keep a refillable water bottle with you all day and set ‘drinking’ goals for yourself, ultimately trying to reach eight, 8-ounce glasses of fluid a day.

Lastly, yes, you likely cleanse and moisturize daily, but how often do you exfoliate? Exfoliating regularly sloughs away hard-to-shed dead skin cells, which can prevent moisturizer and serum from fully penetrating your skin. Ask a dermatologist how often you should exfoliate based on your skin type and needs, and follow this guide on how to Exfoliate Your Face.
